BOIL ADVISORY ISSUED FOR HWY 28 W Alexandria, Louisiana— Repairs to a 16-inch water main on HWY 28 W has resulted in the need for a boil water advisory, according to Luis Saucier, Assistant Superintendent of Water Department. Because water pressure was lost during the repair process, the water in the affected area may have been compromised. Late Friday evening, Alexandria Utility System Water Department personnel discovered a significant leak in the 16” water main serving homes and businesses on the south side of LA Hwy. 28 West. After significant discussion, it was determined the leak could not be safely repaired without temporarily interrupting water service to homes and businesses in the vicinity. Alexandria Fire Department responded to three abandoned building fires on Magnolia Street on September 28, 2023. At approximately 4:56 AM, the Alexandria Fire Department was dispatched to 12th Street and Magnolia Street regarding an abandoned building fire. Firefighters arrived within two minutes; however, upon arrival, they discovered three buildings on fire. The glow of the fire could be seen by responders from Lee and Huffman Streets. At approximately 9:24 AM, the Alexandria Fire Department and Rapides Parish Fire District #2 were dispatched to the corner of Dallas and Locust Streets in reference to a fully involved building fire. The report aired last night (July 10, 2023) by KALB concerning utility disconnects for non-payment presented only one side of the story.
