Alexandria, La. (July 31, 2020) — The City of Alexandria will host a drive-thru Back 2 School Supply Giveaway from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Alexander Fulton Mini Park in downtown Alexandria, which is the parking lot across from City Hall between Second and Third Streets.
Traditionally the City hosts an annual indoor Back to School Bash, but in light of social distancing guidelines related to COVID-19 the City will host an outdoor drive-thru event. The supply giveaway is for children in grades K-12 and the children receiving supplies must be in the car at the event.
Alexandria, La. (July 23, 2020) — The City of Alexandria has completed work to reconstruct Pitts Street.
The street, which connects Broadway Avenue and Applewhite Street, is frequently used as a bypass by residents when train traffic blocks the crossing on Broadway.

Alexandria, La. (July 5, 2020) — The City of Alexandria will provide free to-go lunches for local youth throughout the month of July starting Monday.
The meals will be offered first-come, first-served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at four locations in Alexandria and will be distributed as grab-and-go meals. All youth age 18 and younger may participate in the program. It is requested that face masks be worn at the time of pick-up for the safety of City workers as well as those picking up meals.

Alexandria, La. (July 2, 2020) — The City of Alexandria, along with the Alexandria Police Department, released video footage from an incident that occurred June 26 at a local area hospital in which an APD officer was briefly knocked unconscious while trying to arrest a suspect for failure to leave the premises after being forbidden.
Alexandria Police Chief Jerrod King waked reporters through the incident, explaining the officer’s actions. Following the presentation, King and Alexandria Mayor Jeffrey W. Hall answered questions.

Alexandria, La. (June 29, 2020) — In an ongoing effort to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the City of Alexandria will not host the annual Rock the Red celebration nor will there be a public fireworks display this year for Independence Day on July 4.
In light of the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Central Louisiana, as well as the extension of the Phase 2 executive order by Gov. John Bel Edwards, City officials determined it was best not to host an activity that could encourage people to gather in crowds.

Alexandria, La. (June 25, 2020) — The City of Alexandria offices including Customer Service, City Hall, the Animal Shelter and other departments will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day on Saturday, July 4.

Alexandria, La. (June 27, 2020) – An Alexandria police officer was injured Friday night while attempting to arrest three individuals for remaining on site after being asked to leave at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Alexandria, La. (June 25, 2020) — City of Alexandria utility customers have recently reported receiving fraudulent calls from individuals claiming to be City representatives demanding payment for bills or new meters or face power disconnection within hours.
The City reminds all residents that it will not call customers asking them to make a credit card payment or wire money for bill payment and threaten to terminate services. The City of Alexandria does not call customers for any bill payment.
