FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEThe Alexandria MLK parade has been cancelled due to weather.The City-wide Interdenominational Revival Committee, organizers of the MLK Day parade, have cancelled the annual parade due to the forecast of extreme cold and the possibility of wintry precipitation. The event is not anticipated to be rescheduled. The Committee will proceed with the annual Prayer Breakfast at 6:30 AM and the Noon Day Service, both of which will be held at the Alexandria Convention Hall.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to three building fires within the last twenty-four hours. On November 29, 2023, at 11:03 AM, the Alexandria Fire Department was dispatched to the La Quinta Inn and Suites on West Calhoun Drive in reference to a hotel room on fire. The fire was brought under control by the building’s fire protection system. The first arriving firefighters verified the fire was contained while other firefighters assisted the occupants in evacuation.
