Beginning July 5th, the Alexandria Museum of Art will showcase outstanding contemporary art from around the world for the 32nd year of our September Competition. Featuring pieces from all media, this exhibition features work of artists 18 and up throughout the country and beyond. The pieces on exhibit were selected by a guest juror from over 450 works with no information apart from the images of the artwork and very basic details about the piece itself. This year’s exhibition features work from 49 artists, 4 countries,
23 states, and 49 cities.

Join The Arts Council of Central Louisiana on Wednesday, February 13th for a screening of Don’t Get Trouble in Your Mind: The Carolina Chocolate Drops’ Story. This film is part of the 2018 – 2019 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Q & A with director John Whitehead will follow the screening.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

About the film:

Husband and wife art duo Harikrishnan Panicker & Deepti Nair (known as Hari & Deepti) began experimenting with paper and lights in 2010, creating illuminated cut paper sculptures which tell stories. Based in Mumbai, Hari and Deepti have traveled and worked throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Spend an evening in the gallery in the glowing ambiance of the works by Indian artists Hari & Deepti on view in our Light by the Forest exhibition, while enjoying fabulous, authentic Indian cuisine.

Creativity through meditation workshop, with autographed books.

In this hands-on workshop, John Simon, Jr. will introduce the drawing and mindfulness techniques that form the basis of his meditation practice - described in his recent publication Drawing Your Own Path. Participants will be led through a variety of approaches to creativity using mindful mark making followed by a discussion about how to work with the results.

Learn traditional yet simple paper making techniques using a variety of organic material and paper ‘rags’ to create a colorful, textured and layered composition. Objectives will focus on proper preparation of materials, applications and drying techniques that will provide participants the knowledge to create more works on their own.
