(May 14, 2019)— Officers from the Alexandria Police Department joined representatives of numerous other area law enforcement agencies at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Rapides Parish Courthouse for the 2019 Annual Law Enforcement Memorial. Alexandria Police Chief Jerrod King presided over the somber tribute to fallen law enforcement officers. In 2018, 163 officers lost their lives nationally, King said. Alexandria, La., (May 14, 2019) — A road closure at the intersection of Day and Powell streets will be necessary from 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20.
The City of Alexandria’s Wastewater Department will be making repairs.
Drivers should plan to avoid the intersection during this closure and prepare for a longer travel time.

Alexandria, La. (April 29, 2019)—Horseshoe Drive, which has been closed at the intersection with Jackson Street Extension, will be open to thru traffic starting the morning of Tuesday, April 30.
At the same time Horseshoe Drive access reopens, Lodi Road will be closed between Horseshoe and Trailway Drive. The Lodi Road closure is expected to remain in place until 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 10. Lodi Road traffic will be detoured via West Pointe Drive, Coco Drive and Twin Bridges Road.

Alexandria, La. (April 26, 2019)—A live oak tree, courtesy of Walker Automotive’s 100th anniversary and Doug Young Nursery, was planted today at the Alexandria Zoo in the Anoa yard in honor of National Arbor Day. “We appreciate the new live oak,” said Zoo Director Lee Ann Whitt. “We’ve lost some big trees this past year for various reasons so this helps us begin to replace them and celebrate National Arbor Day.” Alexandria City Council President Jules Green, Whitt, City of Alexandria Landscape Architect Darren Green and representatives from Walker Automotive were on hand for the planting...
Alexandria, La. (April 25, 2019)—Crews from the City of Alexandria Utility and Public Works departments quickly responded to a number of incidents early this morning as a severe thunderstorm moved through the city. Director of Utilities Michael P. Marcotte reports overall storm damage was not extensive, with the primary issues being downed power lines and trees that fell and blocked roadways in the city. Marcotte said approximately 3,200 customers lost power during the storm, which started about 6 a.m. “We lost about 10 percent of our circuits at the peak,” Marcotte said. Power was restored...
