The Alexandria Fire Department responded to three building fires within the last twenty-four hours. On November 29, 2023, at 11:03 AM, the Alexandria Fire Department was dispatched to the La Quinta Inn and Suites on West Calhoun Drive in reference to a hotel room on fire. The fire was brought under control by the building’s fire protection system. The first arriving firefighters verified the fire was contained while other firefighters assisted the occupants in evacuation. Late Friday evening, Alexandria Utility System Water Department personnel discovered a significant leak in the 16” water main serving homes and businesses on the south side of LA Hwy. 28 West. After significant discussion, it was determined the leak could not be safely repaired without temporarily interrupting water service to homes and businesses in the vicinity.
