State of the Community set Monday
Alexandria, La. (April 30, 2019)—Mayor Jeff W. Hall will discuss the State of the Community at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019, at the Randolph Riverfront Amphitheater on the levee.
Mayor Hall will discuss downtown development and safety among other topics.

Alexandria, La. (April 29, 2019)—Horseshoe Drive, which has been closed at the intersection with Jackson Street Extension, will be open to thru traffic starting the morning of Tuesday, April 30.
At the same time Horseshoe Drive access reopens, Lodi Road will be closed between Horseshoe and Trailway Drive. The Lodi Road closure is expected to remain in place until 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 10. Lodi Road traffic will be detoured via West Pointe Drive, Coco Drive and Twin Bridges Road.

Alexandria, La. (April 26, 2019)—A live oak tree, courtesy of Walker Automotive’s 100th anniversary and Doug Young Nursery, was planted today at the Alexandria Zoo in the Anoa yard in honor of National Arbor Day. “We appreciate the new live oak,” said Zoo Director Lee Ann Whitt. “We’ve lost some big trees this past year for various reasons so this helps us begin to replace them and celebrate National Arbor Day.” Alexandria City Council President Jules Green, Whitt, City of Alexandria Landscape Architect Darren Green and representatives from Walker Automotive were on hand for the planting...

Alexandria, La. (April 25, 2019)—Crews from the City of Alexandria Utility and Public Works departments quickly responded to a number of incidents early this morning as a severe thunderstorm moved through the city. Director of Utilities Michael P. Marcotte reports overall storm damage was not extensive, with the primary issues being downed power lines and trees that fell and blocked roadways in the city. Marcotte said approximately 3,200 customers lost power during the storm, which started about 6 a.m. “We lost about 10 percent of our circuits at the peak,” Marcotte said. Power was restored...

Alexandria, La. (April 25, 2019)—The City of Alexandria was awarded first place April 18 in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Cleanest City Contest District VIII. Alexandria, La. (April 16, 2019)—The City of Alexandria Customer Service Office, City Hall and other city offices and departments will be closed on April 19 in observance of Good Friday.
ATRANS bus service will be closed Friday, April 19, and resume operation on Saturday, April 20.
The sanitation schedule will run as follows: Thursday’s garbage will be collected on Wednesday, April 17, and Friday’s garbage will be collected on Thursday, April 18. There will be no garbage pickup on Friday, April 19. Regular garbage pickup will resume on Monday, April 22.

Alexandria, La. (April 12, 2019)—The City of Alexandria’s Community Services Division Citywide Easter Egg Hunt 2019 will not be held on Saturday, April 13, at City Park due to expected severe weather.
The Citywide Easter Egg Hunt will instead be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Mini Park on Third Street in Downtown Alexandria.
Party for the Planet, planned Saturday at the Alexandria Zoo, also has been postponed. The Party for the Planet will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. For more information go to www.thealexandriazoo.com.

Alexandria, La., (April 7, 2019) — The City of Alexandria reports that all drainage pumps are running and the streets are continuing to drain following today’s rain event. “We are carefully monitoring the weather and our streets, especially the Martin Park area,” said Merriell Lawson, director of public works. “The streets are the natural conduit for drainage, so don’t be alarmed when you see water in the streets.
