Alexandria, La. (June 24, 2019)— As of 9:30 p.m., electric service has been restored to all Alexandria Utility Systems customers able to receive power, according to Michael Marcotte, AUS Director.
“We are so grateful to the hard-working crews from AUS and to the contractors and others who joined together today to help restore power,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeff Hall. “The safety of our residents and of our employees is our top concern, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as crews worked throughout the day and into the evening to restore service.”
As the result of severe weather that moved through Alexandria in the early morning hours Monday, about 2,300 customers lost power due to broken utility poles, downed tree limbs and downed wires. Marcotte noted the hardest hit areas were in the vicinity of Horseshoe Drive, Prescott Road, Heyman Lane and Texas Avenue.
“We had crews from AUS working along with utility contractors and tree trimming services throughout the day to restore power and clean up storm debris,” Marcotte said. “As Mayor Hall noted, we appreciate everyone’s patience.”
While all reported outages have been addressed and the city’s electric system has been restored, residents who did not report an outage or those with damage to their electric meter or the connection to their property may still be without service. “If a customer’s meter was damaged, they should contact a licensed electrician to make repairs,” Marcotte explained. Once the needed repairs are made and inspected service can be restored.
Customers may report power outages, downed wires, damaged poles and other utility equipment problems to the Electric Distribution Department at (318) 473-1301. Residents may also use the AlexConnects mobile application to report power outages.
