(September 7, 2022) —Mayor Jeff Hall, joined by representatives of the Alexandria Fire Department, honored DeAnna Robertson at Tuesday’s meeting of the Alexandria City Council for her heroism rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle following a crash last month on the Purple Heart Bridge. Alexandria, La. (August 23, 2022) — Local residents are increasingly choosing to recycle their used cardboard items thanks to the City of Alexandria’s new recycling program. In the few weeks since the City partnered with Hometown Waste Services, LLC, in May, more than two tons of cardboard has been recycled with organizers seeing increased collections as residents become more aware of the program. “We are proud of this drop-off program, which is free to the City and saves taxpayer dollars on disposal fees at the landfill,” said Sandra Washington, interim director of public works. Study designed to encourage more diversification in awarding of City contracts Alexandria, La. (August 8, 2022) — The City of Alexandria has launched an innovative new program to train city employees to earn a Class A, B or D Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). “The city always has a need for drivers,” said Oscar Donta Howard Jr., assistant director of Public Works. “The advantage to the city in providing this training program is that we get to train our drivers in-house and we can work the classes around the employee’s work schedule. (August 1, 2022) — Improvements at the City of Alexandria’s Riverfront Amphitheater brought home the Louisiana Municipal Association’s Community Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Improvement in Economic Development.
