In this workshop, participants will make hand-made paper from sugarcane and paper waste combined with single-use disposable plastic waste to explore the possibilities of making art from recycled materials and what a renewable resource can be. Participants are invited to bring plastic waste from their own lives or collected on the way to the workshop for inclusion in their paper.
Chalew will begin the workshop by sharing how she uses hand-made paper in her own artwork and her approach to pursuing an environmentally sustainable studio practice. The workshop will also cover the pulping and processing of sugarcane, waste papers and plastics and the basics of hand-paper-making. Participants will leave with their own hand-made mixed-media paper sheets.
