Cavanugh Lecture Series
Associate Professors Ge Gao and Lei Zhong, both of whom are members of the English Department and from the College of Foreign Languages of Qu Fu Normal University in Shandong Province, China, will present the last lecture of the 2017-2018 season of the LSUA Cavanaugh Lecture series this April 24, 2018 at the Alexandria Museum of Art beginning at 5:30pm.
Professor Gao, who teaches undergraduate and graduate students majoring in linguistics and applied linguistics, serves as the Director of the English Department. She is the author of several published works, including the “Experimental Study of the Influence of Chinese Experience on English Phonetic Acquisition from the Perspective of Word Stress,” and “The Influence of Chinese Experience on English Phonetic Acquisition at the Suprasegmental Level.” She also works as a visiting scholar at LSUA for the J-1 exchange program, which is funded by The Education Department of Shandong Province.
Professor Zhong teaches English to non-English majors and is the recipient of a scholarship award from the International Cooperation Program for Key Professors and also works for the J-1 exchange program funded by Qufu Normal University. She has authored several books and her research interests include: the teaching of English in college; using English for specific purposes, and providing English accounts of Chinese culture.
Both professors will highlight some of the differences between higher education in China and the United States, then take questions from and ask questions of the audience. The lecture is free and open to the public.
